RIM Rollout OS 6 Across BlackBerry Range

Research in Motion are planning a roll out of the latest version of their mobile operating system to several existing models of the BlackBerry smartphone.

RIM rollout OS 6 across BlackBerry range

Known as BlackBerry OS 6 (RIM have never been fans of naming their operating systems) and currently only found on the new BlackBerry Torch and BlackBerry Bold 9780, the mobile platform is set to be heading to a few surprising choices.

In addition to the BlackBerry Torch, the BlackBerry Bold 9780, the Curve 3G, the Pearl 3G and the Bold 9700 will all see the advantage of RIM’s next generation mobile platform. This is thanks to the success of the BlackBerry Torch and the Bold 9780 handsets that have done pretty well for RIM, given the competition.

Never short of a handset or two to discard for antiquity, this does however mean that a few of their popular handsets won’t make it to BlackBerry OS 6 – namely the BlackBerry Pearl candystick and the more office-centric BlackBerry Bold 9000.

This should come as no surprise, of course – the new BlackBerry phones need to survive in a busy marketplace where they offer nothing new in terms of functionality.
