Facebook Respond to HTC Rumours

January 28, 2011, By Christian Cawley

Following news earlier this week that Facebook were joining forced with luxury handset manufacturer HTC to release a phone featuring the branding of the inexplicably popular social network, a spokesperson has said at a company event in London that this is not the case.

Facebook deny HTC phone rumour

Dan Rose is the head of business development at Facebook and he has claimed that the whole project by HTC is just a bit of “interesting” development.

“This is really just another example of a manufacturer who has taken our public APIs and integrated them into their device in an interesting way.”

HTC aren’t the only company to be linked to developing a Facebook-centric device either – reports last Autumn indicated that a team from Facebook was working with INQ Mobile to build a handset that featured a heavy dose of social networking alongside the usual mobile phone tools.

Whether the HTC phone will ever see the light of day or if the initial rumour was slightly exaggerated will become clear in a view weeks time, with the device supposedly being primed for release at 2011’s Mobile World Congress.
