NGP To Expand with Flash Memory

January 27, 2011, By Christian Cawley

It’s been an exciting day for Sony fans, with the NGP and PlayStation Suite both announced.

There is tonnes of material on the web today about the new Sony NGP (commonly known as the PSP 2) but here’s something you might have missed…

Sony NGP Utilises Flash memory

With the new game system comes a new game medium – the NGP takes advantage of a small flash memory card which is dedicated to storing NGP games. Taking full advantage of the strength of flash memory, the card will be used to store full titles as well as add-on content (perhaps downloaded from PlayStation Network) and save games.

By taking the flash-based route, Sony hope to be able to provide game cards with higher capacity in future, with larger, more immersive games expected to take advantage of this feature.

Additionally, NGP will also take advantage of the PlayStation Suite which will be used for releasing game content for Android 2.3 phones and tablets – meaning that you will be able to play the same games on an Android phone (such as the Xperia Play) as on the NGP.
