Android’s PlayStation Suite

The Sony Japan PlayStation Meeting 2011 event which will forever be remembered as the event at which the PSP2 was given the new name of NGP and showcased in all its glory also featured some very interesting additional information – that of PlayStation Suite for Android.

PlayStation Suite for Android phones

No one is particularly surprised by this development – after all, we’ve already seen the so-called PlayStation Phone (above, now officially known as the Xperia Play) and Xbox LIVE style integration between Android and PlayStation Network has been on the cards for quite some time.

Apparently due at some point within the next 12 months, PlayStation Suite will deliver a cross-platform framework emulating first-generation PSP titles. What is particularly interesting is the “cross-platform” part – we’ve been expecting this to be an Android-only project but there is every chance that PlayStation Suite could end up hosting games on iPhone and even Windows Phone 7 handsets, as well as Android 2.3 phones and tablets.

In addition, a PlayStation Store app will also be available for Android to allow suitable devices to access content and basically breathe new life into the huge selection of mobile games that PSP has as its library.
