LG Optimus 3D – Tablet or Phone?

January 26, 2011, By Christian Cawley

Last week a tablet, this week a phone; could it be that the LG Optimus 3G is in fact two devices?

Just what is the LG Optimus 3D - phone, tablet or both?

A bit of background first of all. Sharp have already released a 3D phone in Japan, while the Nintendo 3DS is set to be released in a few weeks bring portable 3D – and most importantly, glasses-free – to the masses. With a range of tablets set to be released wielding the Tegra 2 3D processor from Nvidia, 3D is set to go portable in a big way in 2011.

Meanwhile the Optimus name is currently used by a Windows Phone 7 handset and an Android phone – so while a 3D phone running Android would fit the range paradigm, a tablet with the same name doesn’t.

The latest rumours concerning South Korea’s LG is that there is a phone called the LG Optimus 3D, and that this has been leaked on the Carphone Warehouse website. With LG spotted with a 4.3 inch 3D display at the CES in early January, it seems clear now that there is definitely a 3D Android powered phone.

As for the tablet, we’ll wait and see.

Ultimately, the best way to find out is to wait until the LG Mobile World Congress press event takes place on February 14th!
