HTC to Unveil Facebook Phone?

January 26, 2011, By Christian Cawley

One of the stranger rumours in the run up to the Mobile World Congress in February 2011 is the story that Facebook has teamed up with HTC to release not one but two Facebook-branded handsets.

HTC to unveil Facebook Phone?

While ultimately lacking a primary source, the rumour does sort of make sense. After all, with the success of various Facebook mobile apps and the native integration to contacts, statuses and pictured offered on Windows Phone 7, it shouldn’t take much for HTC to custom tailor an Android handset and print a Facebook logo on it to enhance the popular social network’s position as the hub of your social life whether you’re at home, work or out on the tiles.

If HTC do go down the route as demonstrated by Windows Phone 7, then full integration between Facebook and the mobile contacts will be enabled, although this should be optional. Meanwhile the device should see Facebook profiles listed, status updates and even pictures from your contacts galleries. Additionally useful widgets should provide obvious and prominent alerts to the homescreen, while Facebook chat should also be available.

It would also make sense for these two devices (apparently one features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard) to feature the full Android Facebook app for additional functionality.
