Nvidia Tegra 2 and 3D Imminent

If you thought you had seen everything that Nvidia could offer with the Tegra mobile processor, think again – the ARM based CPU is set for not one but two additions to the range this year.

Not only is there a Tegra 2 3D processor set for release – which you might have seen included in the specs of the LG Optimus pad – there is also a Tegra 3 set for inclusion in various home cinema and laptops later in the year.

The Tegra 2 3D has been making waves in the tablet market with many a watchful eye interested in how the LG Optimus performs with this chip – so expect plenty of copy cat devices in time for Christmas in the wake of the Nintendo 3DS.

While the mobile world is set to go 3D crazy this year (and an interesting question about all of this is why is there no rush to get notebooks and desktops running 3D displays?) the news about the Tegra 3 offers interesting possibilities.

Equipped with four Cortex A9 cores and an improved GPU, the 1.5GHz Tegra 3 processor also features support for Blu-ray and resolutions of 1900×1200 – more than enough for a good quality home cinema solution.
