HTC Merge with Alltel Branding Spotted Online; Might Arrive Next Month

January 25, 2011, By Leo Xavier

If you are someone who is anxious about the HTC Merge handset that was rumored to hit Verizon, this latest leak will be pleasant news for you. An image of the device is doing the rounds on the web, but this time it has surfaced with Alltel branding.

As you might remember, the HTC Merge was leaked several times in the previous year. The device was rumored to be launched on Verizon’s network by the end of 2010. But that did not happen.

It was thought that the carrier was delaying the device because it was reconfiguring the hardware for Verizon’s LTE network. But the device was not included in the carrier’s 4G promotions.

Now, a new leak, which comes to us courtesy of Droid-Life, has brought out the Alltel branded Merge, and it appears that the smartphone is being tested on Alltel’s network. If the trials are completed successfully, the device might be launched as soon as next month.

It is not known whether the Verizon launch of the device has been delayed or dropped. No official confirmation has been made on the matter. We will let you know as soon as there is an announcement.

The device, which is a QWERTY slider, is expected to come equipped with a second-generation Snapdragon processor and a 3.7-inch touchscreen. The rumors also suggest that the display will have a resolution of 800×480, although many sources have disagreed on the matter.
