HP/Palm Topaz webOS Tablet Details Leaked Ahead of Feb 9 Event

January 25, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

We had earlier told you about the BP/Palm event that will happen on February 9. There are a few more days to go for the big day, but the tablet device waiting to see the wraps go off is now out in the open – courtesy of a leak. The HP/Palm Topaz tablet has exposed itself by way of an internal document that has managed to sneak out of the company’s lockers.

The document found in the wild by guys at PreCentral lists some awesome specs that would come with the Topaz.  The document says the Topaz will hide underneath the hood a dual core 1.2GHz Qualcomm MSM8660 SnapDragon processor.

Now, when HP/Palm says dual core 1.2GHz Qualcomm MSM8660 SnapDragon processor, we tend to think that the device would arrive on the carrier networks of Verizon or Sprint.  This is because the MSM8660 supports CDMA 2000 and EVDO networks, which could make the Topaz tailor made for Verizon or Sprint.

Besides these features, the processor will also have capabilities to support 1080p encoding/decoding, OpenGL ES 2.0, and 24 bit WXGA 1280 x 800 displays.

The tablet will boast of a screen realty spread across 9.7 inches, and will return 1024 x 768 resolution with IPS.  A 1.3 mega pixel camera, dual band 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity options will almost complete the picture.

All of 1.5 pounds and 0.54 inches in thickness, the device that would run Palm’s webOS will have a battery set that promises more than 8 hours of life.  Considering that the tablet holds within itself a dual core processor, this is pretty awesome.

The device will be spruced up with 512MB RAM, which we think is tad less. On the storage front, the tablet will boast of 16 to 64GB – something akin to what we have earlier seen in the Apple iPad.

That’s what the leaked document lists down. What concerns us is that the date of the document seems to go a year back, and so we do not know if the specs listed  stay.  There could have been additions too over the period – who knows?

We will have to wait till February 9 to know more, or may be a leak would give us added info before the event.  Lets wait to hear more on that and of course we would now love to go looking for what’s on the pricing front.
