Samsung Galaxy S & Tab Rumored to Get Android 2.3 ‘Honeycomb’ Update by End of Q1 2011

January 24, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Those among you who have been waiting for an Android 2.3 Honeycomb update on your Samsung Galaxy S and the Galaxy Tab has something to cheer. Though unconfirmed, a rumor doing the rounds suggests that the two devices are likely to get the update by the end of the current quarter.

The rumor trickles down from an Amsterdam-based website called SamFirmware and they have tweeted this piece of info.  A visit to their Twitter account will open before you this: “Samsung still plans Android 2.3 for Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S release allround end Q1 begin Q2.” Believe it or not, this gives us something to look forward to as the quarter one of 2011 is fast racing to a close.

We are still not able to swallow the info without a pinch of salt, though. As you all know, the American variants of the Galaxy S and Tab are still waiting to see Android 2.2 Froyo arrive. With the wait for Froyo still on, how could we sit up and sigh a heave of relief hearing that the Honeycomb is coming, that too in a few days’ time?

Also, Samsung has always been a tad slow in bringing in OTA software updates for their devices. The US owners of devices such as Captivate, Fascinate and Epic 4G owners know very well what we mean.

For now, the update news is a rumor. We wouldn’t advise you to jump in excitement as soon as you read this. But then, let’s give it a chance. Let’s wait till Q1 comes to a close.
