Acer Iconia Dual Screen Tablet PC Gets Cypress TrueTouch Controller

January 21, 2011, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Acer’s Iconia dual screen PC has been in the news for quite a while now. Every passing day seems to be giving us new details to chew on. The latest stems from a statement made by Cypress that the company’s multi-touch solution will go into the making of the Iconia.

The multi-touch solution, called the TrueTouch controller, comes about as a multiple-chip solution designed for large-size screens. Significant about this is that it would allow 10-finger multi-touch functions. Sounds good, right?

Cypress has made the TrueTouch controller in such a way that it supports up to 14-inch screen sizes and keeps a check on power consumption.  TrueTouch also has capabilities to inject awesome efficiency features. Further, the TrueTouch controller can also boast of support from all first-tier ITO sensors, and that is said to make it easier for product developers to adopt the solution.

Now that the Acer Iconia has got the new solution, it is for sure that the dual screen tablet will be something we would like to play with as soon as it comes. The twin 14-inch touchscreen device, as has been earlier reported, will be equipped with an Intel Core i5 processor, up to 4GB of RAM and 750GB of HDD storage. Connectivity would be taken care of by optional 3G, USB 3.0, VGA and HDMI and WiFi features.

The two displays will have HD 1366×768 resolution, while the Acer CineCrystal LED-backlit TFT LCDs would bring in added brightness. The two displays will have Gorilla Glass protection.

The dual-screen displays are what make the Acer Iconia much wanted. With the Cypress TrueTouch controller too making its way into the device, it seems like Acer has an ultimate charmer ready to come. We are going for it. Tell us what you feel.
