We have got great news for those of you who are waiting for a super fast handset to hit T-Mobile. Samsung’s new 4G phone, the Vibrant 4G, has been caught on camera, and it appears that the device will be coming with more than just support for the carrier’s speedy network.
As you might remember, last week we had reported about a leak that had revealed the existence of the Samsung Vibrant 4G handset and the leak had suggested that the new device was headed to T-Mobile.
Now, the latest leak has given us a more close-up image of the new device, and you can clearly see the T-Mobile name on the top of the phone.
It looks similar to the original Vibrant cosmetically, although the new phone is equipped with a front facing camera.
The Samsung Vibrant 4G will be the world’s first phone with 21Mbps HSPA+ support, and the device will also have a 1GHz processor, a 4 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display and a five-megapixel camera.
The earlier leak had suggested that the phone will run Froyo, but now, it appears that it will be coming with Android Gingerbread. And there is a possibility that the device won’t run on stock. The device in the picture does not feature the company’s TouchWiz UI, but sources have revealed that Samsung is working on a Gingerbread compatible version of the interface at the moment.
And the guys who got the chance to get their hands on the device say that the phone is “smooth” and “stupid fast”.
But, the story doesn’t end here. There are numerous questions arising from the picture above. Take a look at the image below.
There is a possibility that the pictured Vibrant is using a half-baked Android 2.3 skin. The supposed Vibrant 4G is using an old Froyo icon, not the Gingerbread icon, for a successful applications download, and the device has WiFi turned on, so that the user didn’t have to show the fact that a 4G icon was missing.
And, as you can see from the above picture (Nexus S with no PM), Android 2.3 Gingerbread does not show the “PM” in the notifications bar, while the Vibrant in the picture is showing that.
However, the device does exist and it is headed to the carrier. It is expected that it will be launched as soon as February 23rd. More details about the phone might arrive soon, so stay tuned to this space.
