Sony Ericsson Cagey on Windows Phone 7

Despite making one of the better Windows Mobile handsets (admittedly it took them a while to bring it to the public, but the Xperia X1 was a good corporate device) Sony Ericsson have so far stayed away from Windows Phone 7.

This will no doubt be due in part to their success with Android and the expected PlayStation Network functionality of the impending PlayStation Phone. However they don’t yet seem convinced by Windows Phone 7’s success or otherwise – or by their own decision to wait and see:

“We absolutely maintain to keep an open mind towards Windows Phone 7. We continue to engage in a relationship with Microsoft, but we haven’t made any concrete announcement about when and how we would introduce Windows Phone 7 into the portfolio.'”

As confusing signals go, Sony Ericsson seem to have Stevie Wonder running their semaphore department. Perhaps things would be clearer if they came clean and admitted that working with the enemy isn’t on the cards.

Despite being late with the Xperia X1 phones, Sony Ericsson made up good ground with the X10 and X10 mini Android devices, both of which have proved where the popular phone manufacturer’s real expertise with third party mobile operating systems lays.
