Samsung Vibrant 4G to run Android 2.3?

Owners of the original Samsung Vibrant Android phone will need to head to the washroom and pick up some towels to soak up the drool – T-Mobile USA are on the verge of releasing the Samsung Vibrant 4G with noticable feature improvements.

Samsung Vibrant 4G to run Android 2.3?

Two things in particular stand out – the front-facing camera and the (expected and presumed but as-yet unconfirmed) presence of Android 2.3 (aka Gingerbread). It’s an interesting enhancement on the original handset, with the latest Android version probably pipping the added camera to the post in the “why didn’t I wait?” stakes. The Samsung Vibrant 4G is also likely to feature the same 4 inch AMOLED display and 1Ghz Hummingbird CPU as the original – which probably means it won’t be too long before the Vibrant 4G build of Android 2.3 is ported to the old Vibrant.

The expected date of release for the handset is February 23rd, and with the front-facing camera combined with suitable software across a HSPA+ 4G connection you’ll likely see more and more people trying to have video phone conversations with their friends, only to realise it’s pretty tough without a standardized platform…
