Nintendo 3DS Camera Dreams

The Nintendo 3DS is expected to be one of the biggest selling pieces of electronics hardware in 2011, with the latest iteration of the mobile games console offering all of the top games in their traditional 2 dimensions as well as enhanced in 3D.

Nintendo 3DS comes with 3D camera, 3D video camera planned for future

Taking advantage of the dual-screen 3D device display is a console-mounted 3D camera for taking stills in 3 dimensions. Exactly what effect this will bring to attempts to display such snaps on non-3D devices is open to question, but Nintendo are expected to take advantage of this hardware as a major selling point for the handheld – after all, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has the camera in mind for some particularly interesting upgrades in the next few years.

While Hollywood studios currently employ some young guy in Korea to reprocess their digital images into 3D movies on a couple of Dell computers in a garage in an effort to replicate the success and ticket revenue power of James Cameron’s Avatar, Nintendo are planning to take that power away from the cottage industry and into the hands of Nintendo 3DS owners.

That’s right – in just a couple of years time you could be recording and editing 3D movies on your trusty Nintendo handheld games console in between games of Professor Layton 3D.
