CES 2011: Avatar Kinect is a New Chatroom

January 6, 2011, By Christian Davis

The Consumer Electronic Show is underway and news of the highly talked about Avatar Kinect was released. What is it exactly? A new fancy chatroom for Xbox LIVE Gold Members.

With the use of Kinect, the avatars can be tracked much easier. During the CES  2011 keynote Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer showed a few of the Avatar Kinects features:

-The Kinect sensor will not just map body movements, but facial expressions, mouth movement and eyebrow-raising
-It will then let our Avatars hang out together in virtual rooms, while we’re connected over Xbox Live
-We’ll be able to record videos of our connected Avatars and put them on Facebook
-We’ll be able to hang out in various “sets.”

The idea of recording videos can be utilized for video podcasts as well and other fan made comedic videos similar to Red vs Blue for example.
