January 5, 2011, By Leo Xavier

We have the latest news for those of you who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the PlayStation Phone from Sony Ericsson. The device has been spotted online and this time with the company’s Xperia logo.

The PlayStation Phone was unofficially heard sometime ago as running Android 2.2 “Froyo”. Later on, we also heard that the device would come with 3.0.

But back then everyone thought that 3.0 was Gingerbread. Now we know that it is 2.3. This is the first time that we are seeing the upcoming device running 2.3. Check out the image below that is proof on the matter.

Earlier rumors had suggested that the device will be called Zeus Z1, then after sometime, rumors about the name Xperia Play started to fly around. Now, the new image suggests that the device might indeed be known as the Xperia Play when it is launched. In the image, we can clearly see that the “Xperia” brand is printed on the slide-out controller portion.

In addition to the Xperia branding, the image shows a new hardware build, a more defined phone with engraved circles, a PlayStation-themed logo and buttons with a lighter shade. And the model number of the device is R800i.

Not much is known about the upcoming device, although it is expected to have a 1 GHz processor with an Adreno 205 GPU, and a 3 inch HVGA Bravia display.

The device is expected to be showcased this week at CES, or if that does not happen, it might be unveiled at MWC in February. We will let you know as more info arrives. So stay tuned to this space.
