Avatar Kinect Function is Real; Leaked Microsoft Slide at CES 2011 Has Avatar Kinect in All Its Glory

January 4, 2011, By Alex Ion

Microsoft’s keynote speech for CES 2011 has leaked today in Vegas; and it’s probably on purpose.

From what it looks like, folks from MSFT have projected slides from their presentation for everyone to see, and believe it or not, there are gaming news you should expect — yes, we’re talking about those of you who have complained over the shortage of core games for the coming year.

According to a photo taken backstage at CES, it looks like Avatar Kinect is indeed a function coming to the Xbox 360.

Word is that a software update is due via Xbox LIVE. The update will allow Kinect owners to interact with each other different than before, by using their avatars. The interesting part is that avatars will use the Kinect camera accessory to map user body movements. That means that if you move, your avatar will move — be it to watch content or play games.

Along with Avatar Kinect, at this year’s CES Microsoft is also expected to debut a similar product to Google TV.

Want to know more? Microsoft’s CES keynote speech happens this Wednesday at 6:30pm PST. This is probably when they’ll go official with it. Watch it live here.
