Samsung Galaxy Player to Be the Android iPod Touch Rival, Launch Expected at CES 2011

December 28, 2010, By Alex Ion

Samsung definitely likes taking on Apple and the products Cupertino builds.

The Samsung S and the Nexus S are two great rivals for the iPhone, their tablet, the Galaxy Tab is not far behind the iPad, but wait, they don’t have a mobile player to take on the iPod touch. Things are about to change as we’re hearing that the company will debut the Galaxy Player at CES in Las Vegas, next week.

According to insiders close to the matter, Samsung plans a Galaxy Player very similar with its Galaxy S mobiles sans the phone functionality. Same sources say that when launched the Galaxy will run Android 2.2 Froyo, and just like the iPod touch will feature both a front- and rear-facing camera. It’s said to be available in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB flavors.

Samsung Galaxy Player Specs & Features

While none of these have been confirmed so far, we’d like you to know what the Samsung Galaxy Player is all about:

  • 9.9 mm wide
  • 1 GHz Hummingbird processor
  • 4-inch LCD screen with up to WVGA resolution (800 x 400)
  • SoundAlive audio enchancing technology
  • Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth 3.0 enabled
  • 3.2 MP rear-camera
  • HD video playback
  • microSD card slot
  • Android Market and Samsung Apps access

How exactly will the Galaxy Player compare with the iPod touch, we don’t know. What we know is that Android is getting more popular by the day and some of you may be tempted to go for one.

Appealing? What do you think?
