Onkyo TA117 Tablet Unveiled Just Ahead of CES 2011

December 28, 2010, By Leo Xavier

It appears that Onkyo is not willing to stay down for too long. The company, despite missing the Christmas shopping season, has come out with a slightly late holiday gift for us and it has come just ahead of the CES. Onkyo has announced its latest tablet device, the TA117 tablet PC.

The Onkyo TA117 comes as sub-flavors, the TA117C3 and the TA117C1.

There is not much difference between the sub-flavors other than in RAM and storage space. While the TA117C1 comes with 512 Megs of DDR3 RAM and eight Gigs of storage, the TA117C3 will double the RAM to one Gig and the storage to 16 Gigs.

Both models will come equipped with a 10.1 inch touch panel display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 and will run Android 2.2 Froyo.

You will also get an Nvidia Tegra 250 processor running at 1GHz, WiFi and Bluetooth, a microSD card slot, two USB ports, an HDMI output, a 1.3 megapixel camera, and a docking port with optional stand.

Spec-wise, the device seems to be quite ok. But it has to be seen how the device performs against the iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The Onkyo tablet has got something better than the other rivals with the bigger display size, but it has no 3G.

And it appears that Onkyo is offering up devices for both Android and Microsoft.

So far, there has been no confirmation on the pricing of the devices, but it is expected that the pre-order of the device will start tomorrow. We will let you know as more info comes out.
