Samsung to unveil 4-inch Galaxy Player at star-studded CES 2011: Is it an Apple iPhone 4 rip-off with Android 2.2 inside?

December 27, 2010, By Shawn Wagnon

If this was the entertainment business then Apple could be suing Samsung for ‘Gimmick Infringement’, but since this is the gadget world, they might just be suing for a stolen design. Of course, that is not going to happen and Samsung are going to vehemently deny that they are out to clone the iPhone 4. They will show the little play button in the middle which is a tiny square on the ‘slated for the future’ 4-inch Galaxy Player, while the one on the iPhone 4 is round… Clear case of original design from Samsung!!

That said, we are still looking forward to this 4-inch Galaxy Player that Samsung has lined up for a CES 2011 release. The news is now official as the Galaxy Player will sport a 4-inch super clear LCD-screen, a front-facing camera, 3.2 megapixel camera on the back and Android 2.2 on the inside. Of course the Froyo on the inside seems a bit lame at this point as something running Android and slated for a mid-2011 release should have Gingerbread on it.

But then we all know Samsung is renowned for being late on the OS update, so that is barely surprising. Samsung will say they were inspired by Galaxy S, Galaxy S users will wonder why they need to buy this when they already have one and others will still try getting that all elusive White iPhone or Verizon iPhone 4. Samsung needs to be more innovative than this really…
