Android, Windows Phone 7& iPhone fight for supremacy: 500 million Smartphones expected to be sold in 2011 as the battle heats up!

December 27, 2010, By Shawn Wagnon

If you are a Smartphone fan (and who is not, really!), then 2011 is a pretty good year to look forward to. The Smartphone revolution is on, the prices are slated to come down further, the competition will see better designs on offer and greater UI as well. All in all it is going to be an exciting year for those intending to buy a new smartphone. But the guys who will be far more excited than the users will be the mobile makers. While 179 million units were sold in 2009 and 270 million went out in 2010, experts predict a good 500 million units to be sold in 2011.

Obviously many of you will be in the 500 million list who will buy one but the real question will be- who will actually win out on the Smartphone war? There is little doubt in our minds that Apple and its iPhone will hold its own and grow across the global market. Apple’s products in the mobile and tablet arena have been revolutionary, to say the very least. While not always technically, the style and marketing makes them the top pick.

But it is the Android mobiles that are expected to explode and take over. Google Android has already won over millions of fans and it is growing from strength to strength. Experts predict Android to continue its accent to the top. Both Windows Phone 7 mobiles and others could fall in next. So, where does that leave RIM and Blackberry?

Not sitting pretty really and with expanding Android and WP7, expect it to shrink in future. So, what is your pick? iOS, Android or WP7?
