Top Twitter Trends for 2010 released by Twitter: Inception, Harry Potter, Paul & iPad among the top 10 as 25 billion tweets fly around!

December 14, 2010, By Shawn Wagnon

The list for the top trends of 2010 has been released by Twitter and while some of the stuff that got tweeted around to popularity does not surprise anyone, there are names on the list that have many rubbing their eyes in disbelief (and in some cases just sheer annoyance at the way they have been promoted). Here is a list of the top 10 trends of to get you started:

1. Gulf Oil Spill
2. FIFA World Cup
3. Inception
4. Haiti Earthquake
5. Vuvuzela
6. Apple iPad
7. Google Android
8. Justin Bieber
9. Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows
10. Pulpo Paul

Just one look at the list and you are left wondering how the hell did Justin Bieber end up where he did! But then that is just us (and maybe many more who have now had it with the Justin Bieber stuff flying around on Twitter). Inception seems to be pretty high on the list, though after watching the movie, it is hard to really not like it anymore.

What started as a little oil spill in a huge ocean and then turned out to be the biggest headache BP ever had (not to mention the cough up), tops the Twitter Trends for 2010. No, doubt Vuvuzela made a huge impact along with the event that ensured it was heard across the planet- FIFA World Cup 2010.

With Paul the Octopus at 10, it just goes to show the kind of power soccer’s mega event has- 3 out of the top 10 slots!
