HTC Magic Gets Froyo Update; Brings in Enhanced Tethering

December 14, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

HTC Magic has made itself into the raw of the Android devices which got their due share of Android OS update. Sorry, it’s not a Gingerbread update but a Froyo one. After all, it started shipping with Donut- Android 1.6, when Vodafone brought it to UK in May 2009.

Major improvements include latest Gmail and Android Market clients. With the Android 2.2.1 Froyo update, HTC Magic users can now save applications directly to external memory devices like SD cards saving up the phone memory.

The Froyo update really adds to the connectivity options of HTC Magic. Now with the added tethering capabilities, it can be used as a modem to connect your PC to internet.

The update brings enhanced Bluetooth connectivity and Active Sync Exchange for email, contacts and calendar sync.

They have just started rolling out the update, so it may take some time when you get the notification. Your phone is set to search for an update and notify you about it.

Considering the size of the update, it is recommended to use a Wi-Fi connection to get the update. If you are going to make it over GPRS or 3G networks, you will have to wait a long time and may cross over the data usage limits.
