December 13, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Tamaron enjoys an acclaimed position in the aftermarket lens world by manufacturing lenses for almost all the DSLR brands existing in the market. So it will be interesting for shutterbugs to know that the company has announced its latest lens offering by claiming this brand new lens to be the smallest and lightest 15x zoom lens in the world.

This new Tamaron lens covers a focal range of 18-270mm. It thus offers 15x zoom and will be the first lens from Tamaron to use Piezo Drive AF which is also termed as PZD AF. The piezoelectric autofocus motor incorporated with the lens is made for DSLR cameras with APS-C size sensors.

It comes with the capability for vibration compensation and image stabilization and the lens has F/3.5-6.3 specifications.

It is also the first DSLR lens in the Tamaron line-up with standing wave ultrasonic motor. The company offers this lens exclusively for Nikon and Canon cameras. The lens for the Nikon and Canon cameras will be rolled out in the Japanese markets on December 20th.

There are no words on the pricing of this lens which weighs 450g and is 88mm in length.

The company is also planning to launch the lens with a Sony mount, but not with immediate effect. This lens for the Sony cameras will not be featuring vibration compensation and image stabilization systems.
