Amazon Still Has WikiLeaks Documents Online; Retailer Says No!

December 10, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Hypocrisy and greed for money come in many shapes on the internet – the latest being Amazon. The online retailer giant, even after being caught with its pants down, for selling WikiLeaks documents, is still doing the same after a trying a series of tricks.

Amazon created a lot of brouhaha after it was found selling a copy of ‘WikiLeaks documents Expose US Foreign Policy Conspiracies’, a compilation of the leaked cables, authored by Heinz Duthel. Amazon was sneered at, for making money with the documents exposed by WikiLeaks whom it pulled down by cutting support to its servers.

However, Amazon has tried to make its stand clear by saying that the book contains ‘not the original material disclosed via the WikiLeaks website’ but just ‘commentary and analysis regarding recent WikiLeaks disclosures’. But the book indeed contains text of the leaks, in the form of excerpts.

Well, since it made no big difference to the ridicule poured in, Amazon even tried putting up a note that the author has pulled down the book himself.

Despite all these tricks, at the time of writing this piece, the book was still available at Amazon stores as a Kindle Edition priced at £7.37. Well, you can do anything to make money, be it pulling down others legs, or eating your own words. Tell us what you think.
