Apple iPhone 3GS for Free from Best Buy on Dec 10

December 9, 2010, By Leo Xavier

You might already know about Radio Shack’s awesome iPhone deal. Now it appears that Best Buy is also jumping in on the action. Latest info suggests that Best Buy will be offering the Apple iPhone 3GS for free.

Best Buy is expected to offer the 8GB iPhone 3GS for free on a contract on Friday, December 10th. This offer is valid to both new lines, additional lines, and also qualified upgrades. Sources have also revealed that the discount would be immediate at the counter.

The deal seems to be unusual for Best Buy since the retailer has always followed Apple’s pricing scheme.

So its now two retailers in on the action, and it hints that Apple, AT&T or both are experimenting with sales at different retailers to see which will be more fruitful.

If the new offer is an initiation guided by Apple, the sales would most likely be to keep the iPhone sales high and ahead of the Google Android devices.

But AT&T also has plans of its own. The carrier had hinted an intention to get as many iPhone customers as possible in this year itself. The carrier had already extended upgrade eligibility to let those customers who were eligible in 2010 to get an iPhone 4 early.

We think that the carrier’s iPhone exclusivity will be ending at the start of next year. And therefore, it wants to include as many customers as possible into its network before they switch to a Verizon iPhone.
