Sprint Samsung Epic 4G to Receive Android 2.2 Froyo Update

December 6, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

It seems the Samsung Epic 4G on Sprint will be the first Galaxy S series device to get the much awaited Android 2.2 Froyo update. There are rumors suggesting that the update will be rolled out very soon. Most probably you might have got the OTA update notification by now.

Well, the update is already available. But Sprint has not yet confirmed it as the official one.  The carrier’s stand is that though the update is available, it’s not an official one as far as the carrier is concerned.

Replying to the questions about the update in the forums, Sprint officials have made it clear that the official Froyo update for Epic 4G will be available only as Over The Air update and not otherwise. The other available update can also be installed in your phone, but at your own on risk and it will void your warranty also, according to Sprint sources.

But there are many who already installed this update manually. Rumors put the build as Android 2.2.1 and that it comes with a bundle of improvements including Adobe Flash Player 10.1 compatibility.

It is said to bring in considerable speed improvements and GPS improvements. Reports are also suggesting that the update features a pinch-to-zoom home screen fly over and new search widget also.
