Crew Skills and Crafting in Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic MMO

Crafting in MMO’s have always been a main component to playing these style of games for so long. Getting the best equipment early on to make your leveling up hardships much easier. BioWare’s most anticipated MMO “Knights of The Old Republic” is taking a huge spin on what crafting means to them. If crafting equipment is one of the main reasons you play MMo’s besides leveling up with friends and doing raids for hours then Knights of The Old Republic will definitely stand out from the rest.

In BioWare’s Knights of The Old Republic crew members are playing a stronger role than expected. You can recruit up to 5 NPC’s which will independently gather supplies and materials, craft helpful items, and even venture out to attempt missions, at your command of course. The crew does this in real-time and continues to carry out your orders even if you log off. This new system allows your player to explore more instead of worrying about going to a certain planet and collecting a particular type of research or staying back at your ship and crafting items.

You can level up your crew in specific class types which include Gathering, Missions, and Crafting.

Gathering Skills

Exploring planets lead you to gather exotic plants and coming across valuable pieces of information. With the
right training, you and your crew will be able to scavenge for raw materials, slice computer systems, and track down valuable artifacts. These resources you can collect can be sold out on the open market or your crew can use them to craft items. The different titles of the Gathering skill set include Bioanalysis, Scavenging, and Splicing. Two others have still not been released.

  • Bioanalysis- The practice of collecting genetic material from creatures and plants
  • Scavenging- The art of recovering useful materials and parts from old or damaged technology
  • Slicing- A skill in accessing secured computer systtems and lockboxes to aquire valuable data and rare schematics

Mission Skills

With these set of skills you can send your crew members out to complete missions for you from an ever-changing mission pool. From gathering loot, relaying valuable information, conducting research, or even trading illegal drugs like Death Sticks your single crew member can partake in this. Your player is more than capable of completing these missions as well and you can have a crew member tag along on your quest. Your character can even earn light or dark side points. Your crew member completes this in real time on their own time and brings you the reward when they are finished. There is always the chance of your crew member failing their mission so make sure to level them up before you send them out. Mission skill sets include Diplomacy and Treasure Hunting. Two other skill sets have not yet bee released  skill sets that have not been released.

  • Diplomacy- The art of conducting and managing negotiations
  • Treasure Hunting- The ability to track down and recover valuable items by investigating a series of clues

Crafting Skills

Depending on how you specialize you crew will affect what they craft between armor, weapons, implants, and other useful equipment. You can choose to use these items or sell them at the open market. If a member of your crew is out on a mission and happens to find a schematic you can order them to immediately start crafting it as soon as they get back to the ship. Some of these tasks may take only 5 minutes other can take up to 24 hours. So far there are 3 different types of crafting Armormech, Artifice, and Biochem. Three other skill sets are still available and are not released yet.

  • Armormech- The ability to work with hard metals and electronic shielding to construct all types of personal armor
  • Artifice- The delicate work of constructing jedi and Sith artifacts
  • Biochem- The engineering of performance-enhancing chemical serums and biological implants
