Xbox 360 Might Be Getting Apps

November 23, 2010, By Nicholas Davis

Game consoles are getting more integrated with the term “Entertainment” instead of just being a videogame console. With additions of Netflix, Twitter, Facebook, Hulu Plus (coming to Xbox 360 soon), Zune Marketplace, Sky, and Kinect making it more family oriented, consoles are becoming more of a household entertainment necessity. The only way to get more ergonomically advanced in todays society would be to add apps. Microsoft is looking to do that.

Silverlight has put out adds for new jobs  with descriptions reading like this:

“Silverlight is looking to hire motivated developers with a passion for creating ground breaking multiscreen platform experiences now targeting the XBOX.”

“As a developer you will be responsible for delivering features for Silverlight on the XBOX as part of the next wave. Candidates must have 5+ years of professional development experience in C++ and a willingness to work on new operating systems and languages.”

If this is possible I would hope to see some heavily integrated third party apps such as Netflix mixed with Silverlight. It would definitely make the Netflix app run smoother and can even evolve it by bringing it to phones, PC’s and your Xbox 360.

With the new “Sony Phone” rumored to come out sometime next year I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony also attempted this app to console merge. It seems like this may be the next move for all next-gen consoles.
