Microsoft Banning Swastika Users in Call of Duty: Black Ops

If you’ve played Call of Duty: Black Ops for at least an hour, you would have noticed the plethora of immature gamer cards that are flooding the game. Most gamercards display a penis doing something vulgar with several fantasy creatures.

One of the rare but frustrating gamercards you will see is that of the Nazi Swastika. Every so often you’ll see that gamer with it and it sticks out like  a sore thumb. Microsoft aims to fix this issue by banning the gamers who decide to use the notorious emblem.

“If you think the swastika symbol should be re-evaluated by societies all over the Earth, I think that’s great,” Toulouse wrote on his personal blog. “Your Xbox Live profile or in-game logo, which doesn’t have the context to explain your goal, is not the right place to do that. It’s not political correctness, it’s fundamental respect.”

Many tried to convince Toulouse that the symbol should be allowed since it’s in the various Call of Duty single player games and Nazi Zombie modes, but there is a huge difference. Having the Nazi Zombies have the Swastika on their uniform is historically correct. A young gamer who has the symbol without any idea of what it means is an issue. Alternatively, having someone who is an Anti-Semite could be representing their less than acceptable beliefs.

This is a wise choice by Microsoft and with the ability to report people for their offense emblems, this should make things easier. It’s not stated how long the ban will be, but it shouldn’t be anything too substantial.
