Samsung Galaxy S (Vibrant & Captivate) Get Android 2.2 Froyo Update in Canada, mid-December

November 18, 2010, By Alex Ion

Do you live in Canada, own a Galaxy S smartphone (Vibrant on Bell or Captivate on Rogers) and wish you’d be getting the Android Froyo update sooner? You’re in luck as we’re hearing from Samsung Mobile Canada via Facebook that both mobiles will be upgraded sometime mid-December. But there’s drawback, as you may have noticed — unfortunately, those of you with a Fascinate on Telus will have to wait until early 2011.

Samsung Galaxy S in three flavors

“We’d like to acknowledge the tremendous interest in the Froyo (Android 2.2) upgrade for Galaxy S series smartphones in Canada. We are working diligently to provide a tested and secure upgrade experience in Canada. Android 2.2 will be released for Vibrant from Bell and Captivate from Rogers in mid-December, and for the Fascinate from TELUS in early 2011. We’ll post further details as they become available,” they said on Facebook.

While the official announcement brings joy to many, we advise you to take it with a pinch of salt as the date could be easily pushed up for early 2011. In the meantime, there’s no word when the Vibrant on T-Mobile, the Captivate on AT&T or the Fascinate on Verizon will get Froyo, but our guess is it will be out sometime next year.
