Motorola Backflip users on AT&T network can now upgrade their Android 1.5 platform with the Android 2.1 Eclair update. The update can be picked up from the Motorola or the AT&T website.

The new update comes with a lot of improvements. The highlights include seven customizable home screen panels which will help you to arrange the widgets more conveniently.

The update also provides you with resizable widgets and customizable filters. Besides, it presents new widgets like Sticky Notes which can make your routine tasks easier. The media gallery has been improved for better interactivity.

Moto Backflip devices were running on Android 1.5 so far. However, once upgraded, users will not be able to restore Android 1.5. Though, the updating process will preserve the media on the SD card, it may erase the media in the internal memory and settings for ringtones, wallpaper, contact shortcuts, etc. The upgrade needs at least 40MB space in the internal memory.

Users have to download the software update to their computer and then upgrade their phone by connecting it to the PC. However, you have to thoroughly go through the detailed instructions before venturing into upgrading to Android 2.1.
