T-Mobile G2 to Get WiFi Calling Update Starting Today

November 3, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

The T-Mobile G2 is likely to get an OTA update from today (November 3) onwards which will bring WiFi tethering and T-Mobile’s WiFi Calling in the device.

The update was greatly anticipated by the users and once they receive it they’ll be able to make calls and send SMS messages from WiFi networks without the help of a femtocell.

The users will be able to benefit from the update as they will be able to conserve their monthly contractual network allotments.

The company has not yet announced any data plans at present for the WiFi hotspot tethering (a native part of Android 2.2 Froyo OS). Until the company gets ready with the data plans, the users will be able to access the service for free.
