Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 to Roll Out on Nov 8

November 3, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

A new rumor is suggesting that the Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 graphics card will be launched on November 8th. The new graphics card is supposed become a great rival for the forthcoming AMD Radeon 6900, and may bring down the price of the existing GeForce GTX 480 that is competing with the Radeon 5870.

The GTX 580 is expected to have a 17% average gain over its Fermi predecessor and a huge 45% better than the 5870. With the release, it is expected that the competition in the graphics card market is going to be tighter than never before.

The Radeon 6970 and 6950 is also scheduled to roll out to the markets and once all of these are together in a market, it will be hard for the customers to choose from.

The GTX 580 has doubled the texture mapping units of the GTX 480 to 128 and the number of CUDA cores increased from 480 to 512. The GTX 480 runs at full load closer to 300W and Nvidia may be working at it, as it has reduced the thermal design power to 244W instead of the ongoing 250W.

The company has priced the device at $499 and this price-tag is said to be in the range of the price for the AMD Radeon 6900.
