Call of Duty: Black Ops to be censored in Germany: Only specially edited localized versions to get steam Activation!

October 29, 2010, By Shawn Wagnon

Those in Germany are already not happy with this. It is one thing to have proper censor working in the country and whole different ball game when you have a ‘special censor’ for your country that disallows you what the rest of your neighbors in the continent are enjoying. But we have already seen German censorship in games in the past and that will continue for Call of Duty Black Ops. The EU version of the Black Ops will not be available in Germany and you will have to use a local sensored version if you wish to join in on Black Ops.

This seems all the more ridiculous in a continent like Europe where the national boundaries are far thinner than anywhere else on the planet. You would believe what the rest of the Europe finds acceptable for a game is allowed by Germany. What censorship we are going by is still not known, but it is certain that you cannot even bring in a Black Ops version from outside and use it in Germany.

Each game needs Steam activation, and only fully localized versions will be allowed to be activated through Steam; so the whole concept of sneaking in a version from outside is gone. Just sounds ridiculous the whole deal. What do you think; the Black Ops fans out there in Europe?
