Google Giveaway: 10,000 Free Google TVs Up For Grabs

October 27, 2010, By Alex Ion

Google’s way of making waves about their newly launched Google TV is by giving units away to people. Don’t get us wrong, it’s a great way to promote a product, but when you go about and give so many boxes for free, it raises questions — just how good is the product?

According to the company, during Adobe’s MAX conference in the US all attendees (some 3,000) were given a free Google TV box, and another 6,500 lucky chaps will get a box in the upcoming weeks.  “We want to encourage a new generation of TV developers to come forward to make this vision a reality. Which is why, over the next few weeks, we’re planning to give away 10,000 Google TV devices to help developers start building for TV,” says Google.

For those of you wondering, yes, if you’re a web developer you can get a Google TV box, too — apparently all you need to do is to request one from Google. You have till November 3rd to do it.

Enter by visiting their promotion site at https://services.google.com/fb/forms/googletvgiveaway, and give them some information about your business, along with a link to your site and a 100-word statement about  how you would best optimize your website for Google TV. The judging criteria includes the nature of the website or online business, the value you’ll offer for Google TV users and of course, the originality of your written statement.

“We’re planning to select 2,500 winners from those entries to receive a free Google TV device.” says Google.

One little drawback though …

Only users in the US, or users who work for a US-based company will be eligible to participate.
