Paul the Octopus passes away as condolences flood in on Facebook: iPhone App ‘Ask the Octopus Oracle’ at $0.99 receives more attention!

October 26, 2010, By Shawn Wagnon

Hatched in January of 2008, Paul the Octopus has passed away and the news has seen unprecedented response of social networking and news sites across the planet. Unprecedented at least for an Octopus! Paul was the famous octopus who predicted every result of the 2010 FIFA World Cup even before the matches started. With the Octopus choosing the tank that had the winner flag on it and never missing a single prediction, Paul became an international hit instantly (Especially with all those bookies!)

Well it is amazing that the Paul picked the right tank every time as the World Cup reached the knockout stage and there were times when you watched it go into a tank and just wished that the prediction was wrong for once. By the end of the Cup Paul was a bigger story than the winning Spanish Squad or even the French team and its fiasco at the cup.

Even recently Paul was given the position as an official “ambassador” to England’s 2018 World Cup bid. The authorities claim that Paul passed away peacefully of natural causes and this has caused a huge flooding of condolence messages on Facebook, Twitter and more. In short, Paul is currently the biggest news on social networking and even the iPhone App that derived its inspiration from the Octopus has shot back to prominence.

Yes, Ask the Octopus Oracle iPhone App is back in the limelight with people suddenly interested in it. It is available for $0.99 at the iTunes Store, where you can check it out right away. Well, this probably will be the only time when an octopus manages to grip the net, social media and international headlines all in its suction-powered, future-predicting arms!
