You must already know about Apple’s “Back to the Mac” event which is going to take place on October 20. Now, a new picture of one of the new MacBook Air models has surfaced. The picture, which is thought to be that of an early prototype, was obtained by Engadget.

The picture shows a unibody frame that appears to be for a 13.3-inch laptop computer, which could possibly be an early prototype of an upcoming revision to the MacBook Air. The device also appears to have USB ports on the sides, an SD card reader and a Mini DisplayPort.

The machine also appears to run the same under-powered Core 2 Duo seen in the current generation MacBook Air. This is evidence that the picture is of an early prototype.

It is being rumored that the MacBook Air 2010 will not come with a hard disk drive, or with a conventional SSD drive. It, instead, will come with a ‘high-capacity’ Solid State Drive and extra room for a battery.

However, Apple is widely expected to also introduce a brand-new, smaller model at this week’s event. Some reports are suggesting that Apple will release a smaller 11.6-inch MacBook Air at the company’s “Back to the Mac” special event.
