Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 Froyo Update Source Code Released

October 14, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Just now, we had reported about Dell’s announcement that the Android 2.2 “Froyo” update for the Dell Streak is coming before the end of this year. Now, we have got information about the Froyo update for the Samsung Galaxy S. Samsung has provided the Froyo update source code via their Open Source Release Center.

This information does not mean that the official Android 2.2 Froyo update is coming soon. But it is definitely a first step toward the release of the update for the series of Samsung Galaxy S smartphones such as the Samsung Fascinate on Verizon Wireless, Samsung Vibrant on T-Mobile, Samsung Captivate on AT&T, and Samsung Epic 4G on Sprint.

The release of the source code also means that an unofficial Froyo ROM for the Galaxy S is likely to follow sometime in the very near future.

If we consider the speed at which the XDA-Developers operate, we can predict that a custom version of Froyo will be available very soon indeed.

If you are interested in the source code, head to the Samsung OSRC and search for GT-i9000 to find the right device.
