Dell Streak Android 2.2 Froyo Update Coming End of Year; Ceases Android 2.1 Update

October 14, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

We have good news for those of you who are the owners of the Dell Streak. Dell has announced that the Android 2.2 “Froyo” update for the Dell Streak is coming before the end of this year.

Recently, we had witnessed the leak of the Android 2.2 ROM for the Dell Streak. That leak suggested that the official update was coming sometime in the near future. Now, Dell has released an official statement regarding the matter.

But the company has not committed to anything other than saying that the update will be released “before the end of the year”. But Dell has promised that Froyo will arrive “much sooner” than December 31st.

But Dell has also announced that there won’t be any future Android 2.1 Eclair updates and that the company has stopped pushing the update to users who have yet to receive it. But that is a small price to pay if it means we will see Froyo that much earlier.

More information (such as an exact date of release of the update) on the matter is expected to be available soon. So stay tuned.

In the meantime, take a look at the official statement here.
