CDMA iPhone coming to India on Reliance or Tata: Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 must not be too far away!

October 13, 2010, By Shawn Wagnon

Is CDMA iPhone 4 coming to India before it actually comes on Verizon in US? Is this Steve Jobs trying to get a point across to Verizon for initially not accepting the iPhone in the form it was? Probably not, but the news doing rounds is that a CDMA iPhone is set for release in India not too far off from now and it could come out on one of India’s first and most established CDMA mobile networks- Reliance India Mobile.

For all those still wondering why Apple might be so bothered about taking a CDMA iPhone 4 to India when the matter still remains unsettled and no official announcement has yet been made in US, the answer is simple- here is a market of 1.2 billion people. Yes, not all potential buyers, but many could be!

This by no means is an official announcement though and it is only some well placed sources who have indicated so. With Reliance carrying much of CDMA spectrum in India and its owner Mr. Ambani among the richest in the country, expect Apple to pick them over Tata Telecomm.

India’s market is still largely untapped by Apple with Nokia getting a lion’s share in the market. A CDMA iPhone 4 on subsidized contracts could see huge benefits for Apple in the sub-continent. This news obviously also means that the CDMA Verizon iPhone 4 is very much now on its way and soon. Still waiting?
