Verizon Motorola Droid 2 R2-D2 Limited Edition Smartphone Begins Selling September 30th for $250

Motorola’s Droid II has been a highly successful smartphone for Big Red and Verizon Wireless is in the mood to cash in furthermore on this device, courtesy of a limited edition offering which is being dubbed the Motorola Droid 2 R2-D2. This one-off model is inspired by Star Wars and it will arrive to mark the 30th anniversary of the movie which is still winning its admirers.

VZW has confirmed that it will start selling the exclusive smartphone through its online store as well as select physical stores across the US, come September 30th. The limited edition Droid 2 R2-D2 will bear a price tag of $250, after a $100 mail-in-rebate for a two year contract commitment.

This Star Wars themed phone will arrive with a Star Wars Dock and lots of surprises in the software segment as well. There will be a number of live wallpapers, custom photos, custom sounds and custom widgets which will make the R2-D2 different than your regular Droid II.

A real attraction will be the custom Star Wars binocular application which will remain specific to this limited edition smartphone. If you were planning on buying the Droid II and you still haven’t spent your money elsewhere, this limited edition Droid 2 R2-D2 is definitely worth shelling your dimes on.
