Apple iPad 9.7-inch Rumored to Release By Spring 2011

September 28, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Shortly after the iPad was launched in April, rumors started to circulate about a second generation 7-inch iPad model. Now, new rumors are suggesting that a 9.7-inch device is more likely to release first.

According to the Apple Insider, the next generation iPad device will be available during spring of 2011, and it will be a lighter and thinner unit than the current one that Apple has on the market.

It was reported that the 7-inch version will not be ready on time and that the 9.7-inch model will be available first, with features such as a front-facing camera and a mini USB port. A camera-equipped second-generation iPad makes sense since Apple had previously stated that they have plans to ship FaceTime on as many devices as possible.

But, there are also rumors that Apple is unlikely to follow its usual 12-month product cycle with the iPad, possibly launching the second generation model in the first quarter of 2011. And there are also claims that the 7-inch iPad is already a finished product.

We might get an official confirmation on the matter sometime in the near future and might even see an early release. So stay tuned for more updates.
