The T-Mobile G2 is available for pre-order starting today (Sept 24) and the device will be released on October 6. A leaked T-Mobile memo, which was posted by TmoNews, is proof that the information available now is correct.

Earlier, we had reported that the G2 was available on Best Buy for pre-orders and that the phone will be launched on October 6th. Now, the new information suggests that the smartphone will be launched on the same day by T-Mobile, which is something to be excited about since it was earlier rumored for a delayed release on October 16th.

The available information suggests that the network will be taking pre-orders online, in stores and through upgrades starting today through to October 4th. The device should cost $200 on a 2-year agreement.

The G2 is virtually identical to the HTC Desire Z and is different only in its support for T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 3G frequencies as well as software. The Desire Z will run HTC’s Sense UI, but the G2 will run a stock version of Android 2.2 with the new Google Voice widgets which helps in not only getting quicker Android updates but also deeper access to Google.

The G2 has a 3.7 inch capacitive touchscreen and a QWERTY keyboard. The smartphone will also feature a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus, and 4GB of internal memory. An 8GB microSD card is also included in the package and you can introduce up to 32GB.
