RIM BlackBerry Tablet, Rival to Apple iPad, Could Debut Next Week

Blackberry’s upcoming tablet could be unveiled as early as next week. The table, which is rumored to be called the BlackPad, is expected to be a great rival to the Apple iPad.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Research In Motion could unveil its new tablet computer, as well as the OS that will be powering it, next week at a developers’ conference in San Francisco.

There are not much details of the tablet available now. But we do know that the tablet will be coming with a 7-inch screen. RIM’s tablet won’t be running the recently revamped BlackBerry 6 operating system. The device will be using a new mobile OS platform built by QNX Software Systems.

It is not known whether the device will be coming with just the one camera on the back or a front-facing camera as well. There is a possibility that RIM would offer a front-facing camera, as this would certainly appeal to corporate users, which as you might know is the main market for the company.

If the current information is true, the tablet will be coming at a crucial time for RIM. RIM’s BlackBerry phones are currently facing tough competition from Apple’s iPhone as well as handsets that run on Google’s Android operating system.

We will have to wait a little while longer to know more about the device. It has to be seen how the BlackPad will be doing against the iPad.
