Sony PS3 Update 3.50 Announced with Release Date; Blu-Ray Support Added

September 16, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Sony has just announced, at the Tokyo Game Show 2010, a version 3.50 software update to the PS3. The update will mainly add support for 3D Blu-Ray movies. The best part of the announcement is that the update is coming on 21st September, just a few days away.

The update will give PS3 owners the ability to playback 3D content on supported Blu-Ray discs. This new feature expands the PS3’s 3D capabilities; as you already know, they added the ability to play stereoscopic 3D games with the 3.30 firmware update in April. It was also promised that there will be some additional features in the update. But there was no confirmation on what those might be.

However, there have been reports about people still having problems with 3.42. We can hope that the new update will help in fixing those problems and will also add some other worthwhile features than just Blu-Ray support.

The update is expected to be available worldwide on the confirmed release date. Stay tuned to this space for more updates on the matter.
