HTC Droid Incredible With SLCD Display, Release Date on Verizon Scooped

September 14, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

HTC has decided to change the AMOLED screen on the Droid Incredible to an SLCD display. It was reported by Droid-Life that HTC has confirmed the change. A leaked screenshot of an internal memo from Verizon also confirms the transition. The memo also confirms that the handsets shipped by the end of September 2010 would be getting the SLCD display.

The inclusion of a SLCD screen rather than AMOLED may help to reduce the battery life problems faced by Incredible owners at the moment. When compared to an AMOLED, the LCD loses the sheer saturation and contrast ratios but gains sharpness and overall color accuracy.

Also, the Droid Incredible was delayed because there were late supplies of the AMOLED display. This may have damaged the sales of the device as by the time it came back into stock the HTC EVO 4G, Droid X and Droid 2 were out and becoming popular.

There is also one other thing to be noted at the bottom of the memo. If you already own a Droid Incredible with an AMOLED and require a replacement device you should receive one with an AMOLED display rather than a SLCD display.

HTC had decided to give the SLCD treatment to the Nexus One and the Desire, both of which now come with an SLCD display. It has to be seen how this transition will be affecting the sales of the Incredible.
