Call of Duty: Black Ops Dedicated Servers Come With A Catch

September 12, 2010, By Christian Davis

Unlike previous games, Black Ops is coming with dedicated servers and PC fans around the world cheered with joy. However, being that Activision and Treyarch have partnered with, they now have complete exclusivity for renting out servers.

Yes, renting. As in you’re going to have to pay for it. Josh olin, Treyarch Community Manager, states that this partnership allows for the administrators to “kick, ban, and configure it the way you see fit.” Naturally, ranked servers will have less configuration options than the unranked servers.

This is something that has been used before however. Battlefield Bad Company 2 has PC gamers rent out dedicated servers and, though they may not like it 100 percent, they still do it. DICE did the same thing so why do gamers insist on bashing Activision?

The pricing is very affordable, having 18 Player ranked servers set at $14.95 a month with discounters for three, six, and twelve month payments. Unraked servers will be $0.99 a month, per player, with a maximum of 24 players.

Treyarchs servers will still be free, so this option is completely optional.
