Toshiba AC100 Android “Smartbook” lands in the UK

September 6, 2010, By Thomas Antony

We had notebooks, netbooks, nettops, tablets and smartphones. Now there is another category, the “smartbook”, which is supposed to fit in between a smartphone and a netbook, or a smartphone and a tablet, or a tablet and a netbook. The new Toshiba AC100 is one such beast. Its a smartbook running on Android 2.1, weighing 1.9 pounds and packing a 10.1 inch display.

It packs a quite bit more punch than a usual high end smartphone with its 1GHz Tegra 250 SoC processor. There is a 32GB SSD for all your storage, 512MB of DDR2 RAM, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and optional 2100MHz UMTS/HSPA modem for connectivity. Also thrown in is an integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam and an HDMI port.

The Toshiba AC100 is listed on Amazon, but is not yet available in the US. If you are in the UK, you can grab one for £292.52 ( ~ $450 ) for the non-3G model. Also check out the video of the smartbook in action below.
